The coconut tree is a palm tree. The coconut tree has a fibrous root system and coconut trees are a very useful plant. All parts of the coconut tree, from the root, are considered useful. Coconut cultivation is mostly seen in areas such as Chilaw, Puttalam, and Kurunegala, so coconuts are a very expensive commodity in areas where coconuts are scarce. Coconut milk and coconut water are used to make many dishes and coconut oil can also be obtained by crushing coconuts. Coconuts have cultural and religious importance not only in the country but also in Hindu religious rituals.
